  • This is Zamboni #10 (Model C) that was sold to Sutro’s, a popular recreation complex located in San Francisco near Point Lobos and near the present Cliff House. The complex had many pools as well as an ice skating rink. It is unclear how the machine got to San Francisco but after it arrived, Frank drove it down a lengthy, steep ramp from the upper entry to the lower level ice skating rink held only by a rope that kept him from going down the ramp and across the rink and out the glass into the ocean. He often expressed vivid memories of the trip down the wooden ramp. Alice and Richard later visited the “Fabulous Sutro’s” with Frank and Norda. Richard’s main memory of the place recalls a general state of disrepair and a moth eaten stuffed bull in the entrance that was to have belonged to Paul Bunyon.
